MY CV

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

BETHESDA MAGAZINE–MANAGING EDITOR

April 2022 - present

I handle editing on several levels for Bethesda Magazine, a bimonthly lifestyle glossy. Working closely with the Executive Editor, I’ve been responsible for seeing each issue through from start to finish: generating story ideas, planning lineups, recruiting and working with freelancers, managing a small but mighty staff of editors and designers, editing content, and proofreading.

Key accomplishments:

  • Led a complete redesign of the publication

  • Expanded our stable of freelancers

NORTHERN VIRGINIA MAGAZINE–EDITOR

March 2021 - April 2022

As the top editor at Northern Virginia, a monthly lifestyle glossy in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., I oversaw all aspects of the magazine’s publication. I was responsible for seeing each issue through from start to finish: generating story ideas, planning lineups, recruiting and working with freelancers, managing a small but mighty staff of editors and designers, editing all content, writing both front-of-book shorts and longer features, proofreading pages, and performing any other necessary task that arises. I also oversaw our digital side, NorthernVirginiaMag.com.

Key accomplishments:

  • Doubled year-over-year web traffic in the 12 months I was employed there

  • Led a refresh of the print magazine

INDIANAPOLIS MONTHLY—MANAGING EDITOR

2008 - February 2021

As managing editor, I was Indianapolis Monthly’s chief copy editor and oversaw our fact-checking process, which involved recruiting, hiring, and managing all editorial interns. I also wrote and edited several front-of-book pages and some features. Previously, I served as editor-in-chief for our ancillary titles. That role required me to create compelling covers, plan story lineups, write and edit all content, and collaborate with (and supervise) an art director for extensive photo shoots. I won several national and international awards for projects I've edited and worked on, including the 2015 Content Marketing Association Award for "Best Publication Redesign." I also won the 2015 City/Regional Magazine Association Award for editing the "Best Ancillary Publication" in the country.

THE INDIANAPOLIS STAR—ASSISTANT LIFESTYLES EDITOR AND WRITER

1997 - 2008

As an editor, I oversaw several of the paper’s six weekly features sections, along with multiple segments of the Sunday lifestyle section. I supervised a staff of several reporters and cultivated freelance writers. I also managed cover stories and smaller, “quick hit” items from concept through completion by working closely with writers, photographers, and designers, and contributed regularly to the newspaper’s website. Before that, as a reporter, I wrote a weekly fashion column, lifestyle column, and restaurant reviews. I attended New York Fashion Week and translated trends for local readers. I planned and orchestrated hundreds of fashion photo shoots and special style sections.
